An Eastern Bumble Bee (Bombus impatiens) buzzes in for a sip of a Monarda (Bee Balm, Oswego Tea) flower's nectar--notice the bee's tongue folded back until it's ready to use it to drink. The pollen baskets on its back legs are loading up with its collection!

An Eastern Bumble Bee (Bombus impatiens) works diligently across a Hydrangea head, in spite of gusting winds threatening to flop the top-heavy plant. At least two other critters are on board as well.

Looking like a hybrid between a butterfly and hummingbird, the Hummingbird Moth (Hemaris thysbe) flies only during the day. Actually about the size of your thumb, this one is feeding on a Buddleia.

A Golden Digger Wasp drinks nectar. An nonagressive wasp who will happily avoid you, she digs a nest for her young in gravelly soil on the ground.
